VB-MAPP Overview
The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is a comprehensive assessment tool used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to evaluate language, learning, and social skills in children with autism and other developmental delays. Developed by Mark L. Sundberg, the VB-MAPP is based on the principles of B. F. Skinner’s analysis of Verbal Behavior.
The assessment measures a child’s developmental progress across several domains, including mand , tact, communication, social interaction, play, and learning skills. It includes important components: the Milestones Assessment, Barriers Assessment, Transition Assessment, Task Analysis and Skills Tracking, and Placement and IEP Goals.
The VB-MAPP helps behavior analysts and clinicians identify a learner’s current skill level, detect barriers to learning, and develop individualized intervention plans to support language and skill development.
